The deep Tyrrhenian Sea surrounding Sardinia and western Italy forms a warm solar collector averaging 25.5–26.2°C in August. In contrast, the northern Venetian lagoon and upper Adriatic experience rapid seasonal heating and cooling over shallow sea beds.
